My first working holiday was as an Au Pair in a small village South West of England. I was not well travelled so I organised employment through an agency in Australia for piece of mind, I wanted to know that I had a job and a place to live after spending some time travelling in Europe.Read More »

Learning to Surf
Every time I am at the beach I stare at a surfers’ code sign, watch the surfers looking at the water to see if the conditions are right to hit the surf and think to myself I want to be a surfer. It is a sport I have been wanting to take up for some time but thought how is it possible to do this with small children? Recently I discovered a group called Surfing Mums Inc which is a not-for-profit association that supports a network of mums that surf. They meet at the beach to alternate childcare duties enabling parents to enjoy some time in the surf. It sounds amazing so I am thinking of taking a few lessons so I can join the group.Read More »
Working at a Summer Camp
Summer camp is something that is very foreign to us Aussies, it is only something you see in the movies. I wanted to experience it for myself so I worked one summer as a swimming instructor at an all girls camp. There are so many summer camps in America and they are all very different but here is an idea of what it was like for me.Read More »
First time at a hostel
My first experience staying at a hostel was in 2002 when a small time country girl arrived in the big city of London. I had a job lined up as an Au Pair in rural England but didn’t have to start straight away, I had time to explore.Read More »
Nature Play
Growing up in rural Western Australia if we were not at the pool we were playing in the bush, building cubby houses and riding our bikes down bush tracks. I find it strange that time has to be made for children to play in nature or outside, I am not sure if it is just because times have changed or this is just the way it has always been in the city.Read More »

Google Book
Lately I feel like social media is consuming too much of my time, I am constantly checking Facebook and Instagram. I mean seriously what I am really going to miss? Stockyard Gully Cave
The children were up at the crack of dawn so we all huddled onto the main bed of our camper trailer watching the sun rise out the window and listening to the wind shake the canvas. The weather always sounds worse from inside a tent however we knew that we would not be spending the entire day on the beach at Sandy Cape like we had done the previous day.

Camper Trailer
We have had an upgrade to a camper trailer. Not quite my normal upgrade to a Dexlue Ocean View room but it is still an upgrade all the same.
Prior to kids Dixie and I camped out in the back of a Troopy. Being with Dixie I knew that I was not heading for a life of luxury since our first date was in a car park at Scarborough beach while he cooked out the back of the Troopy. He was travelling around Australia when we met but that is a story for another time.
Lucky to Travel
“You are so lucky to have travelled the world” is a statement I often hear. Is it luck or was it just bloody hard work?
I rented out my house in the city, moved in with my parents in a small country town and worked two jobs to save the money to travel. Made sacrifices to get the money together so I could travel and have an adventure.Read More »
