We have had the loveliest time celebrating Christmas and New Years in Melbourne. Oh, and I can’t forget it was also JJ and my birthday. It sure is the season to party!
Jetstar was on strike causing some chaos over the Christmas period. Thankfully our flight was not affected and we were soaring through the air in no time.
The heatwave from Western Australia followed us over to Melbourne. One thing I can’t understand about Melbourne weather is how can it be 42C one day then 17C and raining the next. It is true what they say about Melbourne having 4 seasons in one day!
Having family around means we have baby sitters! Dixie and I went into the city centre for my birthday. We walked the streets of Melbourne, we people watched, were dazzled by street performers, ate and downed a few bevvies! Melbourne has a wonderful atmosphere, it is such a vibrant and colourful city.
It was nice to spend quality, kid-free time together.
After Christmas, we visited the historic town of Echuca on the banks of the Murray River. We spent most of our days swimming in the river and it was a thrill when the paddle steamer cruised past us blowing its whistle.
Sometimes it is great being a passenger on a road trip but not when your pilot doesn’t want to stop at tourist attractions. After lots of begging, I got to admire the painted silos featuring the threatened Squirrel Glider and Kingfisher eating a Yellow Belly Fish.
On the last day of 2019, we went to the southern tip of the Mornington Peninsula. The Point Nepean National Park is rich in military history with stunning scenery. The children were fascinated with the historic buildings, especially the network of tunnels built during the war.
Sorrento is a beautiful seaside town, filled with holidaymakers! The village was pumping and it looks like it is the place to spend New Year’s Eve!
The last few weeks of 2019 full of overindulging, catching up with family, friends and plenty of relaxing! I hope you enjoyed the Christmas period and have a wonderful New Year!
It is time for me to sign off, go for a run and burn off all that Christmas pudding I consumed!

I do hope you enjoyed our neck of the woods! But thank goodness that you flew! We know of two families still waiting for the Eyre Highway to open again so that they can return to Perth.

We had a fabulous time. Dixie wanted to drive at one stage but there was no way I wanted to be in a car that long with kids. Turns out it was a good thing we did fly.

This post makes me want to pack up our camper and head south for a while! We always seem to head north or to the beaches, but the Murray River and those Silos! LOVE. Happy New Year to you and yours, so glad to hear it was such an awesome time for you all.

How lovely you got to do that. I saw some of your updates on Instagram. I have been to Melbourne as a blogger for some conferences back in the ‘days of blogging’ and I loved how easy it was to get around unlike the city I grew up in – Sydney.
Thanks so much for joining in the 2nd Life This Week in 2020 and next week the optional prompt is 3/51 Remember This 20.1.2020. I do hope to see you link up too. Denyse.
