Review: Ninja Shark Snorkel

Santa must have known the children will be spending lots of time in the water. That is why he left a full face Ninja Shark Snorkel under our tree.

We are about to head off on a 3-month trip, exploring the Western Australia coast and beyond. We plan to interact with curious Sea Lion pups in Jurien Bay, swim with Whale Sharks in Exmouth and snorkel the coral reefs located along the coast.

I want the children to be confident snorkellers before we embark on our journey. I would hate for them to miss out on these wonderful experiences because they are apprehensive.

Air Kids – Full Face Snorkel Mask

There are several different masks available from Ninja Shark and ours is the Air Kids – Full Face Snorkel Mask. The snorkel comes in two parts, the mask and tube and fits into a small breathable bag provided. It is very easy to assemble and disassemble the tube and mask.

The mask is very light and simple to fasten to the children’s face. As soon as they had the mask on they were off exploring the ocean floor.

The air comes in through the tube, goes into the mask and then air is released out the side of the mask. Bubbles appear as the air comes out of the mask. Surprisingly the mask does not fog up.

The snorkel tube prevents water from entering the mask as it has two floating balls that automatically seal the snorkel mask’s air valve, making it impossible for water to get inside.

Previously JJ used a traditional snorkel but now she prefers the full face mask. On our recent holiday, she put the mask on and snorkelled out to a pontoon about 100 meters from shore. She just put her head down, took off and didn’t look back!

A cool feature on the snorkel is a mount for your action camera. Our waterproof case for our GoPro broke so we haven’t tried it out yet.

The only flaw we found is the supplied bag velcros together in the middle and there are gaps either side. When disassembled, the tube can fit through these gaps. I thought we had lost the tube at the beach but thankfully it turned up in the car! Ninja Shark also stock fully enclosed waterproof bags or you can just add the snorkel to your backpack or beach bag to prevent this from happening.
