Ten on Ten: Dirt bikes and wildflowers

Welcome to ten on ten! On the 10th of each month I share 10 photos from our family life.

Road Trip.jpg

Recently we embarked on a road trip to the wheatbelt. Sadly the crops are not looking as healthy as they should be due to a dry start to the WA winter. The farmers are doing it tough this year so just remember to thank a farmer for your next meal.

We camped on a wheatbelt farm, also known as Paradise. Our tent was pitched on the edge of the canola crop and close to the dirt bike track. I prefer the view of the landscape while the rest of the family drew their attention towards the track.

I was trying not to be an over protective mother and keeping my anxiety levels in check. All the while keeping a close eye on JJ as she tore up the track on her quad bike.

Luckily her little brother was keeping an eye on things for me.

The landscape on the farm is dull and dry. Fields of canola and paddocks of wheat help to brighten the horizon.

wildflowers.jpgThe natural bush is an uninspiring shade of green with large granite outcrops. Yellow wattle stands out among the dim landscape with the added pop of colour from the occasional wildflower. If you look hard you can always found some beauty in your surrounds.

Feet in Canola.jpg

I took a bit of time out to put my feet up and relax. I tried to listen to the sounds of the birds but it was usually drowned out by the rev of a dirt bike engine. Trying to get my nature fix but really I was here to support my little dirt bike riders!

Sunset over wheat

We marveled as the sky changed to orange as the sunset. A refreshing change to see the sun fade over the wheat crop instead of the ocean.  As night fell we felt the warmth of the campfire, enjoyed a drink and spun a few yarns.

The next day was Dixie’s time to shine and to do what he loves best. He spent most of the day weaving in and out of bushes while following trails around the farm .

The children played with rocks and sticks waiting for their dad to speed past. We spot him in the distance and then he lovingly covers us in red dust!

  1. Dirt bike tracks and inspiring landscapes don’t often go together, but as you say, there is a little bit of beauty everywhere if you look hard enough – and your pics certainly show that.

  2. I love fields of canola stretching as far as the eye can see. It is dry here on NSW too. My son is a dirt bike enthusiast as are two of his older children. I of course am the worried mama/grandma and I have been known to have good reason. Our son missed a jump some years back (many actually) on a dirt bike track and “I” was the one called to the hospital…one knee fracture and some concussion later …
Anyway, wearing safety clothing and a helmet is a must! Love your shot of the sunset in particular.
Thanks for joining in #LTW 35/52, next week is Taking Stock. I have added the prompts for the rest of 2017 on my home page and in the blog post P is for Pansies.

  3. Nice pics. I live in the country, and although I love the city, mountains, and the beach, there is certainly a beauty to this part of the world. And I do see how farmers (and small business owners) in these regions struggle. We certainly need to protect farmers and also save prime agricultural land from being destroyed, because without them/it, there will be nothing for our grandchildren.

  4. Gorgeous photo’s Anne! I still would have got my nature fix with those beautiful scenes, even with the revving of motorbikes! You’re kids are so lucky – what fun! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife
