Ten on Ten: Green

On the 10th of each month I share 10 photos taken in one day. I have never been one to follow the rules (unless I am cooking then I always stick to the recipe) so I am snapping pics over several days.

I had been thinking about getting a DSLR camera for a while as I enjoy taking photos. Usually I hand to the camera over to my partner Dixie as he has an eye for photography.  Finally I decided to splurge and spend the money. I purchased a Nikon D3400  but my new toy was soon hijacked by Dixie on our recent camping trip!

Now that Dixie is back at work and I have my new baby all to myself I decided to set myself a challenge. I am going to get to know how my camera works, take it off the automatic setting and start experimenting.

But what will I take photos of? The children have been poorly so we have been spending lots of time at home. I was stumped on what I could photograph.

Looking around the house and the backyard I could not find anything very inspiring for my ten on ten project. Then I decided to pick a colour as a theme and just run with it.

Here are my green images and hopefully my photography will improve over time.

I still have a lot to learn about photography and my camera but you have to start somewhere right?

Do you have any tips for me? Do you take part in a photography challenge?

  1. I have a Nikon D90 & man do I love it! These days you get a great resolution from the iPhone, but it’s the creative control that comes with a SLR that is very addictive. #TeamLovinLife

  2. I’d say you have picked up photography very easily. Your green photos are wonderful. I sometimes do Instagram challenges which are great for broadening your horizons with your photography subjects. The best tip I have found is thinking about light when you are taking photos and how it impacts on your shot. The best times to take photos are during the golden hours of the day – first thing in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. The light is very favourable and soft during these times. #TeamLovinLife

  3. Loving the green theme Anne. I’ve found that practice is the key to improving my photography. Kathy is so right about the light. You can use a torch and cover it with fabric to create soft light inside.

I try to take a photo of the pre-dawn sky or the sunrise each day, when the light is so soft and pretty (yeah, I”m nuts!!) I like to challenge myself to find a different angle or light each morning 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

  4. I like the sound of a challenge of sharing 10 photos on the 10th of each month. I’ve had the thought of photographing a scene in my garden everyday of the year to show how the seasons change, but have not even started. I think I’ve said it before, I love that knitting photo 🙂
