On the 10th of each month I share 10 photos. This month is all about Rottnest Island, Western Australia.
Instead of catching the ferry to Rottnest Island like most people I decided to swim there instead! Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island.
It was a tough day out on the water. A strong current made it very challenging to keep up a fast pace.
Eventually we made it to the island. I have never been so happy to feel the sand between my toes. My children were waiting for me at the finish line and I hope they were proud of their old mumma!
After the celebrations at the pub the next day was dedicated to recovering! Floating at the Basin is a bit more relaxing than the previous days swim. A unique swimming spot which is a hole in the reef, crystal clear water and white sand.
A short walk over the dunes from the Basin and surprise surprise you hit another stunning beach.
Pinky Beach is the perfect spot to relax with the Bathurst Point Lighthouse keeping a watch over the water.
A visit to Rottnest is not complete without hanging out with the Quokkas. My daughter JJ made sure these little guys had some water to drink. She is my wildlife warrior.
Another day, another bay!
This time it was a dip at Geordie Bay which is located at the northern side of the island. I must admit there were a few stingers in water so it was a quick dip!
We hardly touched the surface of Rottnest Island but I am sure we will be back!

so many things I love about your post Anne. Firstly, I think it is a great idea 10 on the 10th, secondly your photos are gorgeous. We hope to get to WA one day (we live in Brisbane) and Rottnest looks beautiful. I’m a runner so I don’t think I could do the swim but congratulations what a wonderful achievement 19.7km I’m very impressed. I look forward to the 10th of next month!

You can run around the island instead! They have a marathon or you can do smaller distances of 5 and 10kms. the event is held in October so you can book a holiday and run at the same time!

I admire you for swimming to Rottnest Island. The day I visited there the seas were so rough and although I normally never get seasick I was well and truly seasick! There’s no way I could swim all that way in those conditions!
Luckily once I arrived there and was safely on land again I felt better and was able to enjoy the natural magnificence of the island!

Such a great effort, you must have been so tired by the time you got there. I used to live in Perth and everyone always told me to go to Rotto, but it was so expensive that I could never afford it. I’m kind of kicking myself now because it looks beautiful. #lifethisweek

That is a shame that you never go over to Rotto. You are right it is pretty expensive to visit the island.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful place. I so wished I’d taken the boat trip over to Rotto when I was in Perth a few years ago. 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

The boat is a bit quicker than swimming!
