Reflections 2016

let-me-be-free-1

Just like that another year and over! It feels like just the other day I was taking my daughter JJ to her first day of kindy. Now we are having end of year parties and saying farewell to her new friends.

It always amazes me when I sit down and reflect on the year at how much we have achieved.

Blogging

I have been enjoying my blogging journey and love sharing my travel stories. I was honoured to feature as a guest blogger at 50 Shades of Age, Swim Ride Mum, Agent Mystery Case and All Around Oz.

Travel

At the start of the year we headed over to Victoria to watch the Southern 80 ski race.  We had lots of little trips around Western Australia from the wheatbelt to the coast and we mainly camped. It was nice to spend time as a family away from technology and enjoy the natural beauty around us.

Rottnest Island Channel Swim

I love to keep fit and this year I swam to Rottnest Island in a Duo. Swim to Rotto is one of Western Australia’s iconic events, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. While we didn’t break any records I was just proud that we made it across the line.

Study – Photo Essay Course

Photography is something I struggle with so I signed up with the University of Tasmania to do a Photo Essay Course. Hopefully you will see a big improvement in my images next year.

Highs

My dream is to travel around oz as a family and we came so close to this dream by being selected as a finalist in Dometic Follow the Sun competition. While we didn’t win it was still a privilege to make it so far in the competition.

Bucket List

My 40 before 40 bucket list is finished a year early! Now it is time to start thinking of some new goals. I might even write a 101 things in 1001 days as I love having goal to strive for whether it is big or small.

All in all it was a pretty good year and lets hope that next year is even better!

Did you have a good year? Here is to a brilliant 2017!

  1. I think I achieved a lot this year – but probably too much as I didn’t enjoy much of it. Or at least not in the moment… I’m still kind of getting over this year and unwinding.

  2. We took 6 months off when our kids were little (2001), put our possessions in storage, rented out our house, bought an old caravan and station wagon and travelled Australia – best thing we ever did. If there is any way you can make it happen – do it! You will never regret it!

  4. What a great and positive year you’ve had. Btw I reckon the Dometic crew should’ve given you guys their amazing prize, but hey don’t let it stop you from doing a ‘big lap’ all by yourselves! There are so many inspiring young families out there living the dream. Cheers to 2017.

    • Have you been on a stand up paddle board? You could add that to your list. I just did it for the first time a few days ago and it was fun. Good luck with you list.
